PEPPER POT.

The sympathy of New Zealanders will, we are sure, be extended to the unfortunates washed out of house and home in New South Wales.

The Bourke disaster is unparalleled in the annals of the colonies. The town, of considerable size, has been virtually wrecked. The loss of stock, too, is enormous.

The quantity of water, deposited in the drowned-out district during the visitation was enough to supply its wants for a year or two.

Some day means will be devised to control such excesses on Nature’s part, and torn them to man’s profitable use. The floods will be made to serve the droughts.

H. Fielder’s emporium in Manners-street is pretty well known by this time, and is noted, really, for the variety and excellence of its wares.

In another place is a special advertise, meet in which H. Fielder speaks his mind, and asks all and sundry to pay him a visit. There will be a choice of fat stock at F. Jackson and Co.’s sale at Johnaonville on April 30. R. C, Shearman and 00. announce consignments received of very choice fruit. The veterans and the publicans meet for a final tussle at cricket on Thm sday next on the Basin Reserve. The public should be attracted.

Mr Redwood, of Blenheim, announces a very valuable property for sale close to the town. Particulars are advertised elsewhere.

The Chrysanthemum Show ought to be attractive this year. The blooms, are said to be magnificent. We hope the weather will favour the occasion next Friday and Saturday. The Horticultural Society say something about it in another place.
