MILITARY SPORTS.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, April 19. The sports for the military, police, and men of the permanent force, held under the presidency of the Earl of Onslow; took place to-day at the Tramway Company’s grounds, Epsom. Beautiful weather prevailed, and there was a large attendance, including many from the country districts. The mem. hers of the Wainku Cavalry, Pukekohe Mounted Infantry, Te Awamutu Cavalry and Wairoa Rifles arrived from the country last night and to-day, and took part in the sports, which were generally well contested, though the cavalry horsas did not prove expert jumpers. The programme contained 17 items, including the Lloyd-Lindsay competition, Victoria Cross competition, in both of which prizes were presented by the Governor ; pursuing race for cavalry, rescuing match, gun drill by members of the A Battery of Artillery, tugs of-war‘, foot races, etc. The Waiuku Cavalry won the Lloyd-Lindsay competition, thus winning the silver cup presented by Lord Onslow.
