The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s barejue Akaroa is now 121 days out from Loudon, and may be expected to show up very shortly. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Brunner left Westport at 10 pm on Saturday, and met with fine weather till arrival here at 10 last night. She sailed South shortly after arrival. The U.S.S. Co’s as Herald left Lyttelton at 10.30 pm on Saturday, and experienced fine weather till arrival bore at 7.30 last night. She sails for Greymouth to-day. The ea Charles Edward arrived from Nelson at 6.45 pm on Saturday, and retamed at 4 am yesterday. ARRIVAL OF THE R.M.S. TONGARIRO, FROM LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s E.M.S, Tongariro, Captain Bone, arrived in harbour at 12.21 o’clock this morning from Loudon, via way ports. She loft London on March the 6th, Plymouth at 12.55 pm on March Bth. Experienced fresh breezes and high sea across the bay; thence moderate winds to Teneriffe, which was reached at 3 37 on March 13th. After landing passengers and mails proceeded at 7.30 pm same day for Capetown; met with light no.-th-east Trades and light winds to the

Equator, which was crossed at 4 pm on Maich 19th. The South-east Trades proved light to moderate; afterward fresh winds to the Cape, arriving there at 1.56 pm on the 28th March ; left again at 7 pm same day for Hobart, which was reached at 3.30 pin on the 16th inst; left for Wellington at 6 pm same day, and arrived as above. Experienced light winds and fine weather on the way across. When off Ushant on the evening of the Bth March, Major-General Sir Howard F.lphinstone fell overboard and was drowned, despite all efforts to save him. This was the only event that marred the pleasure of the voyage, which seems to have been a very pleasant one. The Tongariro will be berthed at the Wharf this morning, COLONIAL OBSERVATORY. Chronometer-eating Notice. The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. The ball will drop at noon precisely, at which hour a chronometer set to Greenwich Mean Time should show 12h. 30m.
