THE WOOLLEN COMPANY DIFFICULTY.
ARBITRATION ACCEPTED BY THE TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL. The Trades and Labour Council held a meeting last night to farther consider the question of arbitration on the matters in dispute between it and the Woollen Company. Mr J, Graham (President) occupied the chair. The Pev J. Berry and Mr R. C. Kirk were present, and addressed the meeting. The matter was then discussed atsome length, and eventually the following resolution was carried unanimously : That this Council consents to submit the whole matter in dispute between the Directors of the Wellington Woollen Company and the Council, in reference to the discharge of certain operatives of the Company, to the arbitration of independent persons, one to be appointed by each side (or their umpire, should they disagree), providing that a proper deed of submission to arbitration be signed on behalf of both parties, binding them to carry out the decision of the arbitrators (or their umpire, should they disagree). Votes of thanks were also passed to Messrs Berry and Kirk for the warm interest they have evinced in the subject.
