HAVELOCK NEWS.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Havelock, October 29. A shedJwherein goods can bestowed on the arrival of a steamer at the wharf is much needed here, and was fully exemplified last Sunday on the arrival of the Waitapu from Wellington. It came on to rain and there was nowhere to shelter the discharged cargo. Captain Cross, of the Waitapu, has offered to give L2 toward the erection of a - suitable shed. An Inspector of Nuisanbes is much needed, and with it may be coupled Collector of Dogtax, also: by-laws should be enforced by the Havelock Town Board. One of the duties of an inspector should be to see that all the householders’ Chimneys are periodically swept, as the simple fact of a chimney firing during a gale of wind may endanger the whole town, as not a single provision has been made to stop the progress of a fire should that unfortunately break put; even the post and telegraph-office and courthouse are totally unprovided for, and hundreds of tons of water are annually allowed to run to waste for the want of means for its conservation.
