NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
A HITCH. (united press association.) Christchurch, February 14. A serious hitch baa arisen with regard to holding the Rifle Association meet, ing here. To-day Captain Somerville, on visiting the proposed range at Rabbit Island, found it overgrown with tussocks and thistles to such an extent that it will cost at least £9O to clear it. He does not feel justified in incurring this expenditure, as he would have to cut down the prize list, and the amount of public support hitherto extended is nofauch as to warrant a belief that more than the valne of the Canterbury prizes will be raised here. Ho is negotiating for a range at Ahuriri, rather nearer town than Rabbit Island, bat it is by no means certain be will get it. Failing that, he intends trying to get a range at ICaiapoi or. Cashmere, He states that unless he can get one or other of these places there is no alternative bat to hold the meeting in same other district.
