CANTERBURY CRIME RETURNS

The offences return for North. Canterbury for 1886 shows that 1972 offeucea were reported, as against 2031 in 1885; 1856 persona wer? apprehended as Against 1835 in the previous year. Of thece 247 were not convicted. The record of drunkenness shows a decrease of 148, being 841 for 1836 and 980 for 1885. There is not much increase in serious crimes, except forgery, of which there were 23 oases, as against 13 in ISSS.
