COMMERCIAL.
New Zealand Times Office, Friday Evening. There have been no arrivals of vessels except from colonial ports since that of the Coptic more than a fortnight ago. # The Ruapehu, which was expected to \iait this port, remained at Lyttelton, and her cargo for Wellington had to be transhipped into the coasting boats. It has not all arrived yet. Trade has not been particularly brisk during the week, business not having become active after the holidays. This, with the non-arrival of cargoes, has prevented any changes of importance in the prices of articles of commerce. Quotations of almost all commodities remain at the same figures iw they were a fortnight ago. Tinned salmon is getting very scarce, the market being almost bare. Currants are still high In price, but are slow of sale. Sugar is unchanged. Candles are still so low in price as to be sold at a loss. Flour is firm, and for best brands L 9 10s per ton can be obtained. Oats are getting decidedly firmer in the Southern parts of the Colony, where they are chiefly grown, with a corresponding effect here. For best quality of butter there is good demand at B£d, but there is much in the market in inferior condition.
