The weather for some weeks past has =beeu of a showery nature, interfering with harvesting operations, but doing a large amount of good to all root crops. A special meeting of the District High School Committee was held the other day to. make arrangements for the school sports meeting on the 8 inst. It was decided to supply hot water and milk to the New Plymouth children, and to invite offers for the afternoon tea bootii right. It was resolved that the Mayor ho asked to officially welcome the visitors, and to request the Retailers Association to close at noon. The trial survey of the MtuamOpunake suggested railway route will be completed this week. The Department has decided that a survey of the Stratford route is to be made before the fanai decision is arrived at, and the survey 3>artr will therefore commence the third. Purvey immediately on the completionof jtPe one now in hand. Reports on the three routes under consideration will be forwarded to Wellington. . The Stratford-Ongam and Mount hgmont railways now, each have more than one hundred men at work, a large number having been put on recently. Mr L Samuels, of the Stratford Post •Office staff has been transfered to Christchurch.
