FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND.
VAST EXPANSE OF WATER, TRAFFIC STOPPED AND PROVISIONS SCARCE. BRISBANE, March 10. The township of Windorah (about 780 miles from Brisbane) is surrounded by flood waters. A boat containing three men and provisions capsized. The occupants reached land by swimming a mile. Two went to a station three miles distant in search of relief, swimming most of the distance, while the third remained on an island two days without food or fire. He suffered great agonies -from sand-flies and mosquitoes before ho
was rescued. The loss of provisions was setrious, as none were procurable in the neighbourhood. The Thompson river is in high flood, and the Longreacli river is still rising slowly. The country adjoining is a vast expanse of water. Communication is cut off excepting from the westward, by boat. Provisions are scarce.
Fifteen inches of rain has fallen at Winton (1018 miles north-west of Brisbane). Wheel traffic has been suspended. Rations are scarce outside of the centres, pigweed being used as food. The railway from Normanton to Croydon is still under Avater.
