An immense amount of work will be entailed on the officials of the Education Department + Jie Education Boards in connection with the bringing into operation of the Teachers’ Superannuation Act. The teachers have up to the end of June to exercise their option of joining or standing out of the scheme. If they decide to join, the department has to make full inquiries to ascertain their correct age— for. upon this the contributions largely depend l — the department, in conjunction with the Boards, will have to ascertain the total amount of salary received by each teacher during the whole term of his or her service. In t-isme .ispses this may extend as far hack as the Education Act of 1877. There is said to be more illiteracy in Portugal than in any other country of Eurone.
