In connection with the Ethiopian movement one hundred and fifty natives, including twenty from Natal, recently went to the negro colleges in America. CAPETOWN, March 5. The leader of the anti-poll tax movement has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and flogged. CAPETOWN, March 6. Fivo squadrons of mounted infantry, under Colonel Leuchars, surrounded Gabizonbe’s kraal, captured h.m, and .shelled the kraal after the inhabitants had evacuated it. Forty of tbe headmen then tendered their submission. When they asked why their kraal was shelled they were informed that “the guns wore the voice of the supreme chief.” CAPETOWN. March 6. Colonel Leuchars’s operations have proved effective and no.further trouble is feared. Gabizenbe’s cattle and a number of assegais have been brought in. CAPETOWN, March 8. Four hundred Natal natives informed a Magistrate that they were unable to pay tho poll-tax, but the sound of Colonel Leuchars’ guns caused a hundred and fifty to pay immed atcly.
