Mr J. Pedersen, who bas severed his connection with the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture, has been the recipient of an appreciative testimonial from the Chief Dairy Commissioner (Mr Kinselia) and his staff, accompanied with a gold and greenstone chain and albert. Mr Pedersen for the last three weeks has been lying seriously ill in tbe Palmerston Hospital, wffere be has undergone an operation for appendicitis. He hopes to be sufficiently recovered to be able to l proceed to Denmark early next month. The “Brisbane Courier” of the Ist inst. states that the Natural Products Company is at present loading the largest cargo of sleepers ever despatched from port. The Planet Venus has arrived to convey sleepers to India, and will carry 50,000. The magnitude of the business now being done by the company may be grasped when it is said that early this month the Border Knight also left with about 40,000 sleepers. The company has now despatched about half a million of sleeperfe, and the business can be largely expanded. India alone requires 3,000,000 of sleepers a year, and the State can secure a much larger share of this than it is no tw doing.
