Messrs J. Noble and Coulthard, Brunnerton, have been appointed Justices of the Peace. *
The Lake Brunner Regatta, notwithstanding the boisterous Aveather, was a great success. The committee deserve praise for the manner in which the events were carried out. The athletic sports held at Totara Flat were an unqualified success. The weather was splendid, and consequently a large number were present. Two Highland pipers in their clan costume were on the field. Their music contributed largely to the pleasure of the day. O’Rourke is said to have made a record in the chopping contest, doing the 2ft. log in the fast time of 3 minutes 9 seconds. A ball was held in the evening in Erickson’s Hall and was well attended. An inquest was held at Nelson Creek: regarding the death of Louis Simpson. A°veidict o’f accidental death was returned, with a rider that the County Council be urged to erect a fence at the cliff where the accident occurred. It lias been decided to hold athletic sports at Ahaura in February.
