THE AUTO-SLIDING BOAT

A French inventor, Count C. tie Lambert, has perfected a wonderful auto-boat, which travels at the speed of 20 miles per hour. He calls it the “Batteau Misseur,” from tho fact that it literally slides on tho water and does not cut its way through, as is the case with all other boats. Fixed to tho keel are a number of inclined planes, and as soon as the screw revolves the pressure of the water on these plan as raises! the boat, thus causing her to skim on the surface. By so doing the resistance of immersion is greatly lessened, and the speed consequently increased. Should such a boat be feasible on a large scale the Channel trip need only occupy above half an hour, while the trip to America would be proportionately short.
