The late Mr Edwin R. Morgan, of Rahotu, Taranaki, whose death was recently announced, came to New Zealand in 1865. He commenced farming at Brunswick, and in 1867 took up a block on the Manawapou river, near Hawera, but was driven off the following year by Titokowaru’s followers, retreating from Te Ngutu-o-te-manu. Mr Morgan enlisted as sergeant in the Kai-iwi Volunteer Cavalry, under Lieutenant (afterwards the Hon.) John Bryce. He was present at Nukumarh and Handley’s w'oolshed. After the war he returned to his section at'Manutahi, and remained there till 1878, when -he removed to Urenui. Three years later he moved again, this time to Kaiiotu. Mr Morgan took a prominet part in public affairs. He served on the Patea Road Board, the Taranaki County Council and the Rahotu School Committee, and was for several years olerk and engineer to the Parihaka Road Board. He leaves a familv of five, .
