FROZEN PORK TRADE

A frozen pork trade from Canada to Australia is notmed in the Vancouver nles. Uue of tne journals, dated 14th October, says:—“Tlirougn the enterprise of tiie British Columbia Cold Storage Company a neAY phase of trade -Dritish Columbia and Australia has been opened up, wmeit promises to become one of, li not the most important features of that business. The innovation is that of skipping frozen pigs to the droughtstricken districts in Australia. The com* pany is forwarding by the Miowera 40 tons pork, and the Armour Packing Company is shipping an additional 60 tons. Botu are initial shipments, and are limited to the refrigerating capacity of the steamer. The Canadian export comprises porkers purchased largely in the Canadian North-west. In Australia they. Avill be placed by the company's representative now there. He has not only found a demand for all that w r ill be forAvarded by this steamer, but has sent orders on ahead for similar quantities in the months of December, January, February, and March. But on other steamers in the Canadian-Australian line the cold storage capacity is larger than' that on the Miowera, and the company proposes increasing their shipment proportionately. On the Aotangi, Avhich sails next month, the company will ship 70 tons of frozen meat. They say there is a demand for all they can supply. They have also arranged to forward shipments of grain, frozen salmon and Canadian butter. Six tons of British Columbia fish is to be loaded by the steamer when she arrives here this evening, and the company is noAv seeking the charter of a ship Avhich Avill carry 2500 tons of Avheat. This vessel Avill be loaded at Vancouver and at Tacoma Avliile her cargo will be brought from different parts of the east."
