LORD ROBERTS AT THE FRONT. PREPARATIONS FOR A GREAT STRUGGLE. LONDON, February 7. There is every indication that a great movement on the part of the British troops in South Africa is pending, as the result of the accumulation of reinforcements and of the new plan of operations devised since the advent of the new Commander-in-Chief. Field-Marshal Lord Roberts and his Chief-of-Staff (General Kitchener), who have hitherto made Capetown their headquarters, have just left for the front. In what particular direction they have gone is not, however, divulged. On the side of the Boers, also, preparations for the decisive struggle are manifest. President Kruger has sent ninety additional pieces of artillery to the front, though lie had to denude. Pretoria of ordnance in order to do so. CAPETOWN, February 8. The Cape “Argus” is responsible for the statement that President Kruger has denuded Pretoria of guns. Field-Marshal Lord Roberts is concentrating thirty thousand troops at tiie front,. with the view of striking a hard blow at the centre, pressing the enemy to extremities, and preventing arrival of reinforcements at their weak points.
