Southland Winter Show.

LARGE TURNIP YIELDS. INVERCARCEILL, Wednesday. The Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Winter Show was opened to-day. The weather was lovely, and the 1111111 her of visitors large. Two-clieese class, 121 b each —lsland Factory, 1; Wyndham Factory, 2. Best single cheese —Island Factory, 1: Wyndham Factory, 2. Salt batter, for export—Wyndham Factory, 1 and 2. The best 5-acre plot of drilled turnips, not Swedes, in the counties of Wallace and Southland, was T. Macdonald’s, West Plains, the weight being 45 tons 5 cwt per acre. In swedes, under same conditions. \E Casey, of West Plains, was first, with -17 tons 151 cwt per acre. According to the Munawato “Times. ’ the trade in North Island sheep to the Southern markets still continues brisk, though it was seriously interfered with by the rough weather experienced last month. During the past week Mr J. B. Clarkson lias shipped 2700 freezers to Addington and other markets, while 1 u ■ - ther shipments are awaiting steameis. For some time past Mr Clarkson has oezn shipping sheep at the rate of about 1000 per week.
