On Friday last at Dunedin the members of the stewards’ department of -he Union Company’s steamer Flora presented Captain Fleming with a handsome dressing-case, suitably inscribed, as a token of the esteem in wuich lie is held by the stewards and cooks. Air Roney, who acted as spokesman, tendered to Cap rain Fleming the best wishes from those present, and hoped long life and prosperily would attend him in his new position as superintendent for tne mercantile marina at Dunedin. Captain Fleming suitably responded. The following votes have been appropriated by Cabinet:—Auckland defences, £1000; Rotorua-Galatea road, £559; North Island Main Trunk Railway, £1950. The Wairarapa Racing Club has ratified the chairman’s action in accenting Messrs Bicknell and Co.’s tender fer the erection of a new grandstand. The sum to be expended is £1395.
