EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board met last week Present—Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman) W. W. McArdle, J. Robertson, J Young, E. Feist, A. W. Hogg, M.H.R. F. Bradey and Rev J. Paterson.

The following statement of finances was laid on the table : —Maintenance account (debtor), £643 Os 3d ; buildings account. (debtor), £154 Is 3d ; technical account (creditor), £800; contract liabilities account, £1550 12s 3d.

The following accounts were passed_for payment: —Maintenance, £3563 9s 7d : buildings, £223 16s 6d. The chairman and inspector were empowered to deal with a request from the Brooklyn School Committee. A deputation from Wereroa asking that that district should he separated from Levin was informed that the hoard was favourable to the idea, but that no election of a new committee could take place till next January.

It was decided to intimate to the Petone Committee that the question of establishing cooking schools at that place was under consideration, and that the Truant Inspector would again visit the neighbourhood. The resignation of A. Gregg, oupii teacher, Makakahi. and Mary McCann, Pangaroa, were accepted. The Chairman intimated that two new sets of books wore being imported from Home, and would soon he laid on the table. , It was decided that if the Bahance School Committee was agreeable, Mr Turkington, ofJCross’s Creek, should ex change with Mr Anderson, of Ballanee. It was resolved to give Mr E. Scott the option of taking either the Te Wliiti or Whareama School. The Mount Wolff Committees recommendation that Miss Coady should be appointed to that school was and it was decided that Mr Gould should be sent there.

Miss Dorset’s (Mauriceville') application for a transfer was adjourned, pending the occurrence of a vacancy. Grants were given to the Ngapopolu Committee for the purchase of a tank, to the Dreyerton Committee for clearing gorse, and to the Dalefield Committee for tlie erection of a shed. Questions of fencing and levelling at Paliiatua. and gravelling at Opaki, wore left to the chairman t-:> «V'3 V.

It was decided to get partiesh :3 in reference to the- rent of a room at Te Aupapa ; to get the clerk of works to report on an application for additional sheds at Nireaha; to postpone consideration of the erection of a school at Rakaunui; to defer consideration or a proposal tomemove the Kaiwaiwsu School; to undertake the erection of a residence at Qliau if the building vote next year is sufficient; to refuse a grant to the Pet one Committee for sanitary work; to defer consideration of Rosen oath’s application for fencing, to cost £25.
