VOLUNTEER NEWS

The Wellington Guards concluded their annual shooting on Saturday. It had been commenced on Saturday, 27th May, when A and B Classes fired. C Class fired last Saturday, provision being made for those not able to attend on those Saturdays to fire on Wednesday. With the exception of the first day the weather was abominable, rain falling in thick misty showers all the time, but as the conditions were wet or fine a good number of competitors, some 30 in all, turned out to compete in the different classes, thus S-.o wing the interest taken by members in their annual field day. Privates Macaskill and Raven, who fired on Wednesday, which was about the worst day for rain, unfortunately for them, did not shoot at 500 yards, deeming the weather too bad, and. according to the conditions, spoilt their chance of getting near the top of the list. Below are the names of the prize-winners in each class, five points being allowed those who attended Queen’s Birthday parade, and also the highest scorers, with handicaps added, for Messrs Veitch and Allan's cup, for which another competition will take place next season.
