AQUATICS.

The Kaiser’s yacht Aleteor sailed over the course from the Nore to Dover in five hours two seconds, boating tho Prince of Wales’ Britannia by nine minutes. The total expenses incurred by the Now Zealand Amateur Rowing Association in sending the four-oared crew and sculler to Sydney amounted to Al3O, which was raised by subscription throughout the Colony. Chiefly owing to the efforts of the Association’s officers, the amount subscribed in Wellington was considerably in excess of the sum raised in the othor centres. It is estimated that a similar trip can in future be undertaken at a cost of under £IOO, as the members of the party are emphatic in their declaration that for a well-trained crew a week’s stay in the locality chosen l'or the contests prior to the date would suffice. This year’s representatives had three weeks oil tho course.

Tho Wellington Naval cutter races, which were rowed last Saturday week, and which were decided to have been rowed again last Saturday owing to the mark-boats being placed at a wrong angle, did not take place as Seaman Roger's and bis crew decided not to row. To test the course, which had been kindly laid off by Captain Bates, of the ship Zealandia, a race was got off between Mcbaren’s cre.v and a scratch one steered by Davenport. The two crews were as follows: —Davenport (cox), F. France (stroke), O’Brien, Bell, Dawson, Robertson, Brown, Ross, Francis, (piinlivin, Button. Arnold (cox), Alexander (stroke), Nixon, Mcßaren, Biilford, Sparks, Breen, Broomhal), Martin, Bradley, .Murray. Davenport’s crew won by about 2UO yards.

At a meeting of the committee of the Port Nicholson Yacht Blub on Monday, it was decided, in reply to the committee of the Wellington Industrial Exhibition, that races should lie In Id while tin: Exhibition was open. It was announced that II entries had been received for (he photographic competition, the subject, being local yachts. Nearly 30 pictures, many of them excellent specimens of the photographic art, had been received, and it was decided that Messrs A. D, Riley, A. do It. Br.union and M. Bhapman should be asked to act as judges of tin: pictures. Thu pictures are to be exhibited in the Academy of Fine Arts. They become the property of tho Club, and limy will be disposed of on tlie art union principle.
