Parliamentary work is nowadays so exacting and critical that even with the occasional recesses throughout the week —which, by the way, are not all observed the session through—it is physically impossible that the strongest man can serve on committees in the morning and sit deliberating and deciding burning questions throughout the remainder of the day and even into the small hours of the next day. This is what private members are called upon to do, though, of course, many do not do it because they cannot, and those who make the attempt please neither themselves nor the country. But, if this is the position in which private members find themselves, what must be the position of Ministers;, who have onerous administrative duties to attend to ?—Oamaru Mail.
