A sDecial meeting of the City Council was held last week, at which the Reserves By-law and the Water - courses By-law were adopted. The Reserves By-law provides a maximum penalty of £o for depasturing cattle, &C upon public reserves, without a permit, and a penalty not exceedin ( , £.'-, for every daV during which such offence shall continue! The Water-courses By-law gives the Council power to enclose and cover in any stream or water-course within the city which, by reason of sewage w othti offensive mat>*r therein, or from any other cause whatever, has, <>r in the opinion of the Council may, become a nuisance or dangerous to the public health. The by-laws are to come up for confirmation in a month's time.
