THE POLICE.
'The despatch of Inspector Pender to England to bring back Leonard Harper to the Colony has rendered necessary some changes in police control. Cabinet has therefore decided to have in the meantime only three police districts in the North Island instead of the four now existing. Inspector Hickson will remain in charge of the Auckland district, while Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki will be subdivided into two districts. , Inspector Thomson, now at New Plymouth, is to have charge of the Southern district, with his headquarters here in Wellington; and Inspector Emerson, who is in charge at Napier, will be appointed to the Northern district. Inspector Emerson's headquarters will still be at Napier, while Inspector Thomson will retain charge of part of the Taranaki district. Later. Inspector Thomson has taken over the Wellington police district from Inspector Pender.
