MORE TAXATION ON ONSLOW BOROUGH RATEPAYERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —People who have property to dispose of, who “ hold for the rise,” are among the readiest to incur additional local taxation, This is very different from the desire of bona fide residents who have bought land to hold as a home, and who wish the nice suburban districts of Onslow Borough to continue pleasant residential localities free from the pressure of overcrowded dwellings. The former class are not careful as to incurring expense. Hence the desire expressed to borrow money to make new roads, not for the benefit of the borough residents, but for the purpose of affording access at the public expense (at .he cost of a debt on the borough), to the sections of land whose owners are ready to dispose of it at a high figure. They know that all the higher will be the price if money is borrowed to make roads to or through these sections. No wonder that these proprietors are, it is said, willing to give land for the roadway. Of course they are; sly dogs ! And the people of the whole borough will be taxed for the upkeep of the road. —I am, &c., No, Thank You !
