The engineer's report, which was a lengthy one, was read and adopted. It was. resolved to hold the annual meeting on May 4, ,and the meeting of ratepayers on the same date, a quarter of-ai hour afterward. Notice of motion was given by the chairman that at a special 1 meeting on the 27th instant he - would move that a general rate of -$d m the pound, payable on May Ist, be struck. It was resolved to pay the Town Board £lO per annum for the use of their Boardroom, and Mr James Bkmald. was authorised to ascertain the cost'of a strong-room. i On Saturday a picnic party from Masterton, including the Eev Mr "Woods, PresbyVterian' Jjfinister, came down by the first and stayed till the evening train. They spent an enjoyable day in the Domain. Mr H. Overton, of Canterbury, has been up in this district lately, and I am informed that he has bought eight rams, .-through, Mr Alex. MoKenzie, from Mr D. of Tuhitarata, the prices being ■' to both parties. the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court this morning, J. Crawford and W. Ritchie were 4 charged under the School Attendance Act with having allowed their children, to failto jput in the required attendances. Mr C. Kent-Johnston appeared on behalf of the School Committee. Crawford was ordered to pay 7s costs, and Ritchie was discharged.
