The schedule of assets and liabilities in the estate of Thomas Howell, storekeeper, "Wellington, shows a total indebtedness to unsecured creditors of ,£l9O 0s Id, the assets being put j down at .£2O. The principal creditors are:—J. E. Nathan and Co., .£39 17s 5d j BlundeU Bros., .£25 15s 4d; Ellen Howell, .£6B 10s ; E. Reeves and Co., ; Geo. Vosseler, .£8 4s 3d; G-. H. Thornton, .£6 9s sd; Wellington Hospital Trustees, «£8 ss; Nelson, Moate and Co., .£5 10s; P. Twomey, .£5 14s 2d. In a written statement to the Official Assignee the debtor says he> has teen carrying on business in Wellington for 37 years. In 1890 and 1891 he brought an action against Kitchen and Co. for an alleged nuisance, caused by their factory, in which suit he was unsuccessful. He was mulcted in costs over .£3OO, and in oi?der to pay that amount he had to dispose of his freehold property at a sacrifice. In spite of every endeavour to surmount his difficulties he had lost his all. A meeting of creditors in the estate of J. Bidmead was called for Monday morning, but no creditors attended. The bankrupt, examined on oath, said he was sure his furniture would hot realise more than .£ls to if sold by auction. He had no other assets. His wife was buying a house by weekly instalments o£ 17s 6d. She was working in the Government Buildings. None of -his money had gone into the house. The meeting was adjourned sine diet - .
