The Japanese Government demands an indemnity from China of 700,000,000 yen, end the occupation of Pekin pending its payment. Shanghai, April 3. It is reported that Japan demands in addition to the payment of an indemnity the cession of Formosa and Southern Manchuria.. Three thousand volunteers have been recruited at Canton for the defence of the province of Kwangtung. The gold yen, according to Webster, is equal to a dollar, and the silver yen is equal to about three-quarters of a dollar. The indemnity therefore must be between one hundred and one hundred and forty millions sterling.
