A CHARGE OF MURDER.
About 8 o’clock on Tuesday morning Dr Cahill was sent for to attend a woman named Annie Friend, in Little Hawkestone street. He found her in an unconscious condition, suffering from concussion of the brain, and ordered her removal to the Hospital. Later on in the morning a man named Charles Nicholson, with whom she has been living, was arrested for causing her grievous bodily harm. The woman complained at the Police Station on Saturday evening that the man had illused her, and she then had a black eye. When Dr Cahill was called in on Monday, Nicholson stated that she had injured herself by falling on the fender. The woman died at the Hospital shortly before 2 o’clock on Monday morning. Later. The man Charles Nicholson, who arrested charged With causing grievous bodily harm to the woman, was brought before Mr Martin, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, when a charge of wilful murder was preferred against him. On the application of Inspector Pender the case was remanded until Friday.
