While a resident of Willis street was absent from home the other evening, a stranger called and asked to see him, and when the door was opened, planted his foot within the threshold, as if to force his way into the house. As the door is fastened by a chain, it was ajar a few inches only, and fthe servant had sufficient promptitude to refuse to open it further, and told the man that her master was at his office, and that he must see him there. The caller left, but of course did not go to the office. He evidently wanted to get into the house, and the incident should be a warning to householders.
