RAILWAY FREE PASSES.
In reply to a deputation from the Southland Acclimatisation Society who waited upon him relative to the action of the department in calling in the free railway passes previously granted to the curator and ranger, Mr Cadman said the free railway passes had been called in because the Commissioners had thought that the system was overdoneIt was intended, however, to deal with different cases on their individual merits, and to reinstate some of the passes. In his own opinion the passes to officials of acclimatisation societies and societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals should again be issued, and he would make a recommendation to that effect.
