Featiierston, March 7. On Monday evening tho usual monthly meeting of the Town Board was held, when the following were present: Commissioners James Donald (chairman), J. G. Cox, A. McKenzie, W. 11. Nicols, C. Candy, W. Benton and W. Hodder, jun. The treasurer reported the overdraft at the Bank of Now Zealand as £37 6s Bd. Permission was granted to J. Hawkins to erect a shooting gallery during tho Board’s pleasure. It was resolved to revise the by-laws. The Works Committee were authorised to choose a site for the new firebell.
At the monthly meeting of the School Committee on Wednesday evening, Messi-s J. G. Cox (chairman), C. Kent-Johnston (secretary), W. Spademan, W. Fry, W. Toogood and T. Worsley wore present. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £1 11s Id. The headmaster reported ah average attendance of 188 out of 218 on the roll. lie gave in a list of the names of children irregular in their attendance, and it was resolved that from henceforth the names will be published in the local press, as well as the parents ro- . ceiving the required notices under the School Attendance Act. The secretary re-, ported that since last meeting he had issued twelve of the notices required by the Act. Featherston, March 11. During the past week larrikins have been up to their practical jokes. On Thursday night they removed the dial from one side of a clock over the building of a local resident, and on the following night the other dial was taken off. Dr Lamb, of Potono, started hero last Thursday, but loft on the following day, as the guarantee had not been made up and as ho could not get a residence. The usual monthly meeting of the Loyal Unity Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M-U., was hold on Saturday evening, when the treqsqror reSorted a credit balapoo of «£4Q 14s 3d. The alanoo-shoot was lead and adopted, and other business was dealt with. The Wairarapa Rake, which has boon closed for some time now, was opened on Friday, the wind being favourable at the time. In the case of F. J. Reid v. Wi Hu tana, Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., reserved his decision till next Court day. This is a case for services rendered as a jockey, the defence being that there was no specific agreement, and that what money had been owing had been placed on the totalisator at the plaintiff's request. March 12. The children of the Yogeltown School, about 100 in number, came up here by this morning’s train,-and were met on the platform by Mr J. Q . Cox, chairman, and Mr C. Kent-Johhston, secretary of the Feathersfcon School Committee, who escorted the children to the Domain, with which they stowed, gad all seemed tg
enjoy themselves. The children were in the charge of tho teachers, namely, Misses Browne (head-mistress), Kenny, Fitchett and Legg, and about 20 parents and Mr Fitchett, secretary of the Vogeltown School Committee. The weather, though threatening, kept fine, and all seemed to enjoy themselves very much, and returned to town by the afternoon train, very pleased with their outing.
