FROM THE GAZETTE. The following 1 are new appointments : Captain Allman, a member of the Central Hoard of Health in place of Captain Johnson; Mr A. C. Aubrey, Deputy-Regis-trar of Births, Marriages and Deaths, for Manaia district; Mr Herbert Humphries, Napieiya Crown solicitor for the Wellington judicial district, vice Mr A. J. Cotterili ; Anthony Garstin, harbourmaster at Picton, in place of G. W. White resigned. Mr George Cook, Danevirke, has resigned his office as Native interpreter. Letters of naturalisation have been issued to A. de Fries, labourer, Wanganui.

The Kiwitea County Council have decided to contribute <£495 18s 8d towards the cost of constructing a road bridge over the Oroua River between Birmingham and Apiti, providing the Government contribute their subsidy. We are glad to see that the reasonable request made by the Pohangina County Council has been acceded to so promptly, and a great boon will soon be conferred upon the residents of Apiti by the erection of this much-needed link of communication. The arrangements for the raising of the balance of the money are all but complete, and the Government subsidy is available whenever the money is re-quired.-—-Standard.
