YACHTING.

A party of yachtsmen, consisting of Dr Mackenzie and his brother, Mr H. Mackenzie, and Mr H. Tuckey, had somo adventures on a yachting trip during the cvale that has been blowing for tlio last few days. They went out on Saturday afternoon to Dr Mackenzie's Scatoun house in the yacht Pearl, but as tho wind had increased they had to stay there all night. On Sunday tho wind was still blowing hard, but on Monday morning it had moderated sufficiently for tho party to leave for town. "When they were half way across the harbour the dingey, which was towing astern, carried away, and the yacht had to be put about and the dingey recovered. By this time the galo had got up again, and the party were in a decidedly dangerous position, tho jib sheet having carried away. The Doctor, therefore, decided to run under the lea of Soames' Island for shelter and repairs. By tho time tho repairs were effected the galo was blowing far too strongly to allow the yacht to put out, and DrMackonzio and his crew found themselves in anything but an enviable position, very wet, no food, and without the proper o-ear to moor tho boat securely. However, thanks to Mr and Mrs Aitcheson, they were made more comfortable, given plenty of food and an opportunity to dry thenclothes and moor their boat. As the wind was still tco high when night came on, Mr and Mrs Aitcheson very kindly allowed them to stay for tho night. The wind having abated a little they were able to return to town on Tuesday morning, very wet, owing to the high sea that was running but otherwise not much the worse for thefr adventures. Mr C. W. Tanner and party went out on Monday morning in his boat, the Dewdrop, and got into difficulties off Soames' Island, but managed to reach the Island safely. Mr and Mrs Aitcheson gave them lodging for the night, and they reached town safely on Tuesday morning. Some anxiety was felt in town for the safety of the two boats and their crews.
