Some discussion took place at Wednesday’s meeting of the Education Board as to the board’s carpenter having too much to do. Mr Buchanan contended’ that the carpenter had not been able to overtake the work which he had been ordered to do,and that the board’s property was suffering in consequence. Ultimately Mr Young gave notice to move at the next meeting of the board That applications be invited for the post of carpenter for the Forty Mile Bush and the Wairarapa, to reside at Masterton. The Educational Institute at its last session made certain recommendations to the Minister of Education for the removal of difficulties which are alleged to exist in carrying out the drawing regulations of the syllabus. With a view to dealing with these recommendations the Minister and Mr Habens (InspectorGeneral of Schools) paid a visit on Wednesday afternoon to the Thorndon School and watched the progress of the lessons of the various drawing classes in elementary perspective, freehand drawing, drawing to scale and model drawing.
