Of 1000 families in France 500 are said by the Rovue Soientifique to be oocupied in agriculture as follows :—250 oultivate themselves or cause to be cultivated their own land; 150 cultivate others' property land families are tenants, bailiffs, or labourers, and 15 are foresters, wood-cutters; 135 charcoal-burners.
i The Wellington Boya' Brigade are to be inf spected by His Excellency the Governor at ' Government House on Thursday, the sth rrox, at 7 p.m. A parade will be held on Tuesday, the 3rd January, to make arrangements. We are given to understand that one of the city bands will head the boys on the march from the institute to Government House, and in nil probability the bandmaster will undertake the tuition of some of institute boys at an early date if the funds for instruments are forthcoming. The brigade played a game of cricket on Tuesday on the Basin Reserve ; 11 from each watch were selected, the starboarl watch being victorious by a few runs. The officers intend providing I other amusements as time and funds permit, I fully believing all work and no play makes ( Jack a dull boy.
