Br Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (PRES<J ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, December 28. Bußh fires in the Gunbower district have devastated between thirty and forty square miles of country, and destroyed a large quantity of fencing and machinery. The Cohuna Creamery was burnt to the ground, and upwards of 1200 sheep were roasted alive. Sydney, December 28. The schooner Loongaha, from the Gilbert Islands, reports that since the annexation of the group by Great Britain, the condition of the natives has improved. The Europeans in the group are clamouring for the appointment of a British Resident.
Adelaide, December 28.
At the instance of the Government, the Hon Mr Kingston will be prosecuted for attempting to provoke a breach of the peace. The summons has been issued.
