RIVAL FROZEN MEAT COMPANIES
(per press association.) Blenheim. April 21. A meeting of farmers was held to-day to cousider tho refutation by Mr Millward, Secretary of the Gear Meat Company, of statements made by Air Nelson at a meeting on the lllh April. The delegate traversed the statements made at that meeting, which he considered detrimental to the Gear Company, particularly as to the rates for freezing and the number of sheep being put through daily by that Company. He also showed, as had been admitted in a letter to the Ma-1. borough Express, f-om Mr NelsoD, that certain rates had been misquoted, and off jred, if opportunity were afforded, to give the Marlborough sheepfarmers higher prices and greater privileges than they would secure under the present system. The ones* tions asked were mainly directed to* the advantages likely to be secured by introducing the Gear Company in preference to Nelson Bros. Air Millward, in answer to a large sheepowner, named Carter, who urged that on the ground of misrepresentation the farmers would ba justified in withdrawing from their guarantee, deprecated the idea, but said that at anytime if the Gear Curnpany could do anything for the district it would willingly do so.
