THE LYNCHING AT NEW ORLEANS.
ITALIAN AGITATION SUBSIDING. (special to press association.) Rome, April 8. The agitation in Italy at the lynching of the Sicilians in New Orleans has subsided. New York, April 8. It has been arranged to indict a few of the leaders of the recent lynching outrage in jNew Orleans on the capital charge. Washington, April 9. Baron de Fava, Italian Minister, leaves on Saturday. (per press association.) New York, April 11. Detective O’Malley, who is suspected of having been an agent of the Maffia (the Silician Secret Society), in New OrlSans, and who is believed to have bribed the jurymen who tried and acquitted the prisoners accused of murdering Mr Henderson, Chief of Police, was indicted on the charge to-day at New Orleans. Thirty citizens well armed attended the Court in order to compel expedition of the trial. The public refuse to give evidence before the grand jury on the charges brought against those alleged to have been concerned in the lynching of the. Sicilians. The Union League Club, embodying the leading men of New York, recognise the patriotism of the lynchers without justifying the outrage, and urge the Federal Government to check the importation of criminal paupers. It is reported that the Italian Government threaten to close diplomatic relations with the United States Government unless ah immediate reply is sent to the message of Marquis Rudini, in which he demanded reparation for the lynching of the Sicilians. Washington, April 12. Baron De Fava, Italian Minister, sailed yesterday. The threat of the Italian Government to close diplomatic relations is denied.
New York, April 13. The confession of Politz, one of the New Orleans victims, which has been published, proves that those lynched were guilty of the murder of Hennessy, Chief of Police. .
