PERSEVERANCE GOLD MINING COMPANY.
ADJOURNED HALF-YEARLY MEETING!.
The adjourned half yearly meeting of the above Company washeldat the Evening Post Chambers Monday evening.. There was a large attendance of shareholders, about twenty gentlemen being present, and Lieut.-Colonel McDonnell (chairman of the Company) presided. Mr H. Travers stated the result of the crushing of lOlbs of stone tested by Mr Bennett and himself to be lodwts per ton. The Chair man announced the result of a test o. 401bs which was treated at his house, and which he stated to be 23gr, or at the rate of 2oz 13dwt 16gr to the ton. Mr A. Scoullar submitted the report of the test of several parcels, amounting in all to ten tons, which were tested at the Footscray Smelting Works, Melbourne, recently. The report was as follows :—“ I beg to report having treated three par. cels of quarts marked Nos. 1,2, and 3, in red, with the following results :—2 tons Bewt of No. I was first treated, with a product of 10dwt lOgr of gold, equal to’ 4dwt Bgr per ton of stone ; 3 tons Bcwt of No. 2 was next treated, giving 16dwt 23gr of gold, equal to 4dwt 23gr per ton ; lastly, 2 tons 3cwt of No. 3 yielded lOdwt 6gr of gold, equal to 4dwtllgrper ton. The stone was ,worked by amalgamation, the tailings carefully concentrated, and the resulting..coucentrates worked by chlorination, and by assay of the tailings after concentration it was found the stone was exhausted of precious metal.” (Signed) W. S. Haselton. Mr Scoullar stated that he considered the stone had been fairly treated, although the result was only 4dwt lfigr to the ton. Three tons of the quartz still remain at the Footscray smelting works. A desultory discussion ensued as to the”best course to be followed, and ultimately a motion was proposed by Mr ■ J, A. Heginbotham, seconded by Mr Travers, “ That it be an instruction to the Directors to procure from the mine a quantity of stone to be treated at a local battery, and that the crushing be superintended by a competent person.” The motion was carried, and Mr C. Mace, who voted against it, demanded a poll. This the chairman granted, the poll to take place next Saturday, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the result to be reported at an adjourned meeting to be held next Monday. Mr Sidey proposed and the Chairman seconded the resolution,, “ That the hearty thanks of the Company be passed to Mr Scoullar for his care of the Company’s interests in Melbourne and for the trouble he had taken in the matter of the tests.” Carried. Mr Travers thought that Mr Scoullar should be reimbursed the expense he had been put to in the matter. Mr Scoullar said he undertook to bear all the expense himself. meeting terminated with the usual compliment to the, chairman.
