LAND BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Land Board was held at the Crown Lands office, Provincial Buildings, yesterday week. Present —Commissioner W. A. Marchant (in the chair), Messrs W. W. McCardle and W. A. Fitzherbert. An application from Mr W. A. Burling to have section 3, Block IX, Mount Cerberus, withdrawn from the small run system and offered on perpetual lease at 10s per acre, was approved. The Commissioner brought before the Board the question of withdrawing section 210, Block IX, Waipawa, from the small run system, and offering it under the Act of 1887, at 10s per acre Approved. Mr W. S. .Marshall applied to be allowed to take* up a piece of land of 500 acres in the Otamaxapua Block, and that the same be weighed with the costs ©f his improvements effected whilst he held the land under lease from the Natives. The Commissioner recommended that proof be submitted that the lands were leased to the applicant, and that the improvements were effected during the term of the lease, also that rent be charged for four years. Approved The Pahiatua Road Beard forwarded plans and proposals for expending accrued thirds in their district. It was resolved to refer the proposals back to the Road Board for more definite information as to where the money is to be spent and in what manner. They shonld also make the proposals on a schedule of thirds which have accrued indicating the exact amounts which are to be spent on the particular works. The Commissioner reported on an application by Mr Liffiton to purchase a portion of the Crown land in the Aohanga and Puketoi survey districts. It was resolved to offer the land subject to survey, roads and reserves to be taken, so as to form part of a definite scheme. The Commissioner informed the Board that Me Wrattan had removed timber valued at 35s from Crown lands, -Makara, without permission, but had now paid the above amount. Resolved to call the attention of the Ranger to the fact that it is believed that great quantities of timber are being removed from Crown lands in the district. The Commissioner read a circular received from the Undersecretary of Crown Lands with reference to the limit allowed a purchaser under the Land Act of 1887, pointing out that any any applicant is in a position to make the required declaration as long as the land included in his application, together with any land which he may have previously acquired under the Act of 1887 in any land district, does not exceed a total area of 2640 acres within that district. The Ranger forwarded a report on Mr Eglinton’s application for portion of Crown lands in the Owoko district, Palliser Bay. It was resolved that all the Crown lands in the vicinity be offered to application. Mr W. Farrell applied to be allowed to select the Crown lands between his sections 17 and 13, Blocks XY. and XI., Mangaone and the main road, on deferred payment and perpetual lease. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McCardle, seconded by Mr Fitzherbert, to throw open all the Crown Lands and those in the Mangatainoko block. The Commissioner submitted a report on some small sections of Crown lands near Hunterville, and proposals for offering them for selection. It was decided to offer the land under the Act of 1887. The Rangitikei County Council forwarded proposals for spending accrued thirds in the township of Hunterville. The Board decided to ask for further particulars. The Commissioner submitted plans of the Crown lands in the Te Rewa block, Otamakapua. It was resolved to offer section 1, block XIV., Ongo, at L 3 per acre, weighted with value of improvements, and the other sections to be offered a; from LI to LI 15s per acre. The schedule of lands showed that 2086 acres 27 perches had been sold since last meeting at an upset price of L 2402 19s Id.
