WEATHER.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Blenheim, October 13. Only the low-lying portions of the town were flooded on Tuesday night. There was a considerable depth of water in some of the streets, and in a few instances it found its way through the houses. The business people in the Centre of the town lifted their goods from the ground floors, and very little damage was done in the shops. The streets and footpaths in some portions of the borough have suffered considerably by the current. There was an immense body of water running down the Omaka, and the telegraph poles on the Middle-road crossing were washed down. No damage worth speaking about has been done either to the river embankment or to the property of settlers. The flood-water has entirely disappeared from the town. It is now (noon) raining heavily, and the Wairau and Opawa rivers are rising. The flood yesterday was caused by the overflow of the Taylor and Omaka rivers. The town is again under water, and old residents say that this flood will be considerably higher than that of Tuesday night. All foot traffic is stopped. The weather is fine, but the warm- rain of last night and this morning has melted the snow on the back ranges, and the rivers by 5 p.m. were bank high. .
