SHOCKING SHOOTING CASE AT NELSON.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, September 23. A sad case of supposed suicide took place last night, about 10 o’clock. A young man named Harry Cresswell, son of Mr Cresswell, chief clerk in the Nelson Post Office, had been to the weekly drill of the Naval Brigade, of which be was a member, and returned home between 9 and 10 o’clock ; but, instead of entering the house, went into an outhouse, where the fatal occurrence took place. . His mother heard the report, butdiduot think it was on their premises. On his father coming home he went looking to see if all was safe, when, to his horror, he found deceased dead, shot through the heart. Medical aid was summoned, but fie was beyond human assistance. He was in the full uniform of his company, and in his carbine was an empty cartridge case, and in the pouch there were nine loaded cartridges. Deceased was about 19 years old, and had been employed in the Colonist office for two or three years. He was a general favorite amoDg his comrades. Later.

At the inquest on Harry Silvers Cr-sswell no evidence throwing additional light on the melancholy affair was adduced, and no. motive for the suicide appears.. He was in good spirits shortly before bis death, and it is thought he met with an accident. The verdict returned was that he died from effects of a gun shot wound, but there was no evidence to show by whom inflicted.
