The Union Company have received cable advices of a satisfactory trial trip of their new steamer the Takapuna, which sails for New Zealand on the 17th instant.

The National Mortgage and Agency Company have received a cable advice that the steamer Triumph, 2749 tons, will load wool at Port Chalmers in December, under charter to the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company.

The British King came in yesterday, drawing 19ft Bin, on quarter-ebb tide, and came up to Port Chalmers Wharf after the tide had fallen fifteen inches.

The Westport Coal Company’s steamer Kangaroo, when going out this afterpoon, grounded on the North Spit, the same place as the Omapere. August 12. The Union Co’s steamer Te Anau arrived at 4 pm. She left Melbourne at 6.30 pm on the 7th, called at Hobart, and experienced heavy NW winds and thick weather to arrival. She sails at 7 pm for Dunedin. Knox, connected with Colonial Sugar Works Company ; and Captain B. Gilboy. who recently attempted to make'the voyage from San Francisco to Australia in a small open boat. The City of New York had 30 saloon and 40 steerage passengers from Sydney for San Francisco and Honolulu. She has on board specie valued at LIO,OOO for Honolulu, and specie L 117.860 for San Francisco, which had been shipped at Sydney. From Auckland the City of New York took specie L 49.445, of which L 20.120 was shipped by the National Bank, and L 20.325 by Bank of New Zealand.

The steamer Kangaroo was successfully floated off the sandbank on the north side of the channel to-day. She has received no damage, so far as is at present known.

Captain Smith is to be congratulated upon liis promotion to the command of the Onion S.S. Company’s steamer Mahinapua. About five years ago ho was second oificor of the ss Taiaroa, but more recently lias been chiof officer of the Mahinapua, in which capacity lie joined her on her trip from Glasgow to Hew Zealand. ARRIVAL OF THE BRITISH KING AT PORT CHALMERS. (united press association.) Port Chalmers. August 9-. The British King reached the Heads at 6 am, and was berthed at Port Chalmers three hours later. She has 2000 tons of cargo, two-thirds of which are for this port, and 150 passengers. Mrs Miller, a steerago passenger, died ou the voyage. Her actual steamingtime was 43 days 101 hours, and her best day's work 333 miles. Passengers —Saloon : Mrs Boyd, Misses Boyd (3), and nurse, Mesdames Guthrie and child, E. Hay. A. T. B. Tire Melbourne Argus of the 4th instant, to hand by the mail, has the fallowing : —“ Another vessel that has been long overdue is now abandoned as lost, viz., the brigantine Adieu, which sailed from Greymouth, one of the New Zealand ports, on the 10th of April, with a cargo of timber for Melbourne. Sho was under command of J. H. Price, and owned by Wm. Glen and Co,, a New Zealand shipping firm. At the time of leaving Greymouth she would probably have had a crew of six or eight hands on board ; and, being in want of an overhaul, it soeni3 likely that she has become unmanageable, and foundered in heavy weather. The Adieu was a wooden ■ vessel of 174 tons not rogister, and was built in 1870 at Brisbane Water, New South Wales.” A ROUGH TRIP. (united press association.) Greymouth, August 15. The steamer Napier, which has been outside during the late bad weather, came in over rough bar this afternoon, after having very little coal in her bunkers, and little food, and all the cattle gone. Captain Fisk reports leaving Patea on Thursday, encountered a heavy gale to Cape Farewell, put into Nelson, where 60 sheep on deck were sold, left again on Friday, all the cattle being well. The weather was good to Cape Foulwind, but bad weather was got from there to the bar. A terrific gale was experienced on Monday night. INTERCOLONIAL WEATHER EXCHANGE.
