By the recent arrivals we have received large files of Metropolitan and Provincial Journals, the former extending down to the sth November inclusive, but the chief subject of interest is the destruction of the Tower of London by fire. The fire by which the Tower was destroyed was first discovered about half-past ten o clocx on the night of the 30th October, and in a few minutes afterwards burst forward with extreme violence from all parts of the building, and by 11 o’clock the Round Tower was in ashes. During the entire of Sunday, the 31st, the centre of the building presented one body of fire, and nothing whatever in a short time afterwards remained but “ a complete shell.” The Map-office and White Tower were at one period of the conflagration in imminent danger, but were saved through the laudable exertions of the firemen and troops. The National loss which has been sustained is estimated at £1,000,000, consisting of trophies, and 200,0u0 stand of arms ; and the grandeur of the sight has been represented as supeiior to that of the burning of the House of Commons or the Royal Exchange.
