Opening Dinner. —'Last evening, Messrs Cruramer and Philipsthal, of the Victoria Hotel, Fort-street, gave their friends a Dinner, got up in real good style. About thirty gentlemen sat down to dinner; Mr. M‘Donald in the chair, and Dr. Campbell as vice-chairman. When the cloth was removed, the Chairman called for a bumper, when he proposed the health of the “ Queen,” which was drank amidst deafening applause. “ Prince Albert and the rest of the Royal Family,” was then cordially responded to. The Chairman then said he hoped his friends around him would fill their glasses, as he was sure the toast he was about to propose would meet with a hearty reception from all present, and that toast was “ His Excellency Governor Hobson,” drank with three times three, and one cheer more. After which, the health of “ Lady Hobson,” was drank amidst tremendous cheering. The “ Ladies of Auckland” was then given, and responded to with the usual British feeling. During the evening several other toasts were given, and the company broke up highly pleased with the evening’s entertainment.
