ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the New Zealand Herald and Auckland Gazette. Sir, —Might I be allowed to ask, through the medium of your Journal, if there is no law in force, in New Zealand, to protect the public from the nuisance which the Butchers of this place commit. A short time since, I had occasion to go to your Office, respecting an advertisement, when I found I could not go direct from Shortland Crescent, in consequence of the smell arising from the Butchers near your Office. Really, Mr. Editor, this nuisance ought to be put down this hot weather, and the Butchers removed a short distance from Auckland, for with the barking of dogs and the stench of their premises, it is shocking. In New South Wales, a pig is not allowed to be kept within 50 feet of any residence. By inserting the above, vou will much oblige, A SUBSCRIBER.
Auckland, Feb. 1, 1542. [We quite agree with the above, and hope the Chief Police Magistrate will have the nuisance iemoved as sooa as possible, for it is intolerable. —Ed.]
