ment of this most interesting Colony be conducted as it has hitherto been done. Moved by S. M> D. Martin, Esq., M. D., attd seconded by J. Logan Campbell, Esq. 4. That unless the Government of this Colony do so far modify and alter the Land Claims Bill now before the Legislative Council (as to meet the reasonable and repeatedly expressed wishes of the settlers) and consistently with the ends of justice, it is the opinion of the meeting, that a Petition should be forwarded to Her Most Gracious Majesty with a copy of these resolutions, together with every other paper and document which have been published and printed, tending to throw any light on the subject. Moved by Samuel Taylor, Esq., and seconded by Jnd. J. Monlefiore, Esq. 5. That a Vote of Thanks be given to the Independent Members of the Legislative Council, viz.: Wm, Field Porter, Esq. George Butler Earp , Esq., and James R. Clendon, Esq. for their independent conduct since the commencement of the Session, and in particular for the able and disinterested manner in which they have uniformly supported the just claims of the original settlers. Moved by Alexander Dalzell , Esq., and seconded by Captain Williams , 6. That the thanks of this meeting be given to S. M. D. Martin, Esq., M. D., for the able letter addressed by him to his Excellency the Governor on the Land Claims Bill, which this meeting is firmly persuaded contains the best and most reasonable plan for the final and equitable adjustment of the Land Claims. Moved by J. J. Montefiore, Esq., and seconded by Thomas Jones, Esq. of Sydney, 7. That a copy of these Resolutions, signed by the Chairman in the name of this Meeting, be forwarded to the Governor. On the motion of Dr. Martin, seconded by W. E. Cormack, Esq., the chair being vacated, J. J. Montefiore, Esq., was called thereto, when on the motion of Dr. Martin it was unanimously agreed, that the thanks of the Meeting be given to Charles Abercrombie, Esq., for his able and impartial conduct in the chair.
